Osaka in November:
Night Temperatures, What to Wear, Lights
What is the weather like in Osaka in November? By the Japan Meteorological Agency’s normals, the daily high is 17.8°C (64.0°F) and the daily low is 10.2°C (50.4°F), and by late November the low falls to 8.4°C (47.1°F). For a night out that runs past midnight, pack a coat: a light one for early November, something closer to winter wear by the end of the month. From 3 November the Midosuji Illumination lights up the avenue from around 17:00 until 25:00 (1am), and the weather office’s normal dates are 22 November for ginkgo leaves turning yellow and 1 December for maples turning red.
I run three Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi that stay open until 5am, and in November the thing guests notice most is not the evening but the walk home: the street at closing time is a lot colder than it was when they came in. This page puts the numbers for that walk in one place, all checked against official sources on 19 October 2026.
How cold is Osaka in November? Early, mid and late month
November in Osaka cools steadily from start to finish. The Japan Meteorological Agency publishes normals for each ten-day period as well as for the whole month, and the drop in the daily low from the first ten days to the last is almost 4°C. These are 30-year averages for 1991–2020 at the Osaka Regional Headquarters, so any given year can run warmer or colder; for the actual weather during your trip, check the agency’s forecast.
| Period | Daily mean | Daily high | Daily low | Rainfall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early November (1st–10th) | 15.8°C (60.4°F) | 20.0°C (68.0°F) | 12.1°C (53.8°F) | 19.7 mm |
| Mid November (11th–20th) | 13.7°C (56.7°F) | 17.6°C (63.7°F) | 10.2°C (50.4°F) | 30.5 mm |
| Late November (21st–30th) | 12.0°C (53.6°F) | 15.9°C (60.6°F) | 8.4°C (47.1°F) | 22.3 mm |
| November (whole month) | 13.8°C (56.8°F) | 17.8°C (64.0°F) | 10.2°C (50.4°F) | 72.5 mm (month total) |
Relative humidity is 64% in every period, and the month averages 152.6 hours of sunshine. Compared with October (high 23.7°C, low 16.0°C), the November daily low is about 6°C lower, and November rainfall is roughly half of October’s 136.0 mm. December goes further still, to a high of 12.3°C (54.1°F) and a low of 5.3°C (41.5°F). If you are arriving at the end of October instead, the October figures are here.
What to wear in Osaka in November, from 9pm to 5am
The coldest part of the day usually comes just before dawn, so if you are still out at 5am, expect it to feel close to that day’s low. Between the afternoon high and the low there is a gap of roughly 7–8°C in every part of November, which is why an outfit that felt right at 3pm can feel thin on the way home. The table is a rough guide built on the normals; people feel the cold differently, and a windy or rainy night will feel colder than the numbers.
| Period | Around 9pm | Around 5am |
|---|---|---|
| Early November | Daily mean 15.8°C (60.4°F). Long sleeves with a light jacket or cardigan you can take off indoors | Close to the daily low of 12.1°C (53.8°F). A thin coat or a jacket over a knit for the walk back |
| Mid November | Daily mean 13.7°C (56.7°F). A knit or sweatshirt plus a light coat | Close to the daily low of 10.2°C (50.4°F). A proper coat; a scarf helps if you are walking a long way |
| Late November | Daily mean 12.0°C (53.6°F). A warmer coat over layers | Close to the daily low of 8.4°C (47.1°F). Winter-leaning clothes: a heavier coat, and a scarf or gloves if you feel the cold |
Layer, because you will move between outside and inside
A November night out in Osaka usually means walking a street, going indoors, then walking again. Several thin layers you can peel off work better than one thick jumper you cannot. Think about how far you will walk, too: looking at the illuminations along Midosuji and then heading to a bar can mean a fair stretch on foot, and the second half of that walk comes later and colder.
Sunset and sunrise in Osaka, November 2026
By the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan’s figures for Osaka, the sun sets around 17:00 all month, a little earlier each week. By 21:00 it has been fully dark for hours, and at 5am it is still dark: sunrise does not come until after 6am.
| Date (2026) | Sunrise | Sunset |
|---|---|---|
| 1 November | 6:18 | 17:05 |
| 15 November | 6:31 | 16:54 |
| 23 November | 6:39 | 16:49 |
| 30 November | 6:45 | 16:47 |
In practice that means the illuminations are already lit by the time most people finish dinner, and anyone leaving a bar at 5am walks out into darkness for at least another hour. If you are heading back late, our page on late nights and first trains covers the hours after the last train.
When do the leaves turn in Osaka? The weather office’s normal dates
The Osaka Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency records the day the leaves change on its own sample trees. The agency defines it as the first day on which, looking at the whole tree, most of the leaves have turned yellow (ginkgo) or red (maple). This is one tree at the weather office, not the peak at any particular viewing spot, so colour at parks and temples can come earlier or later. Treat these dates as a sign of when the season arrives in the city, not as a forecast for anywhere you plan to visit.
| Observation | Normal date | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 | Earliest / latest on record |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ginkgo leaves turn yellow | 22 November | 16 November | 27 November | 25 November | 2 November 1986 / 29 November 2000 |
| Maple leaves turn red | 1 December | 5 December | 10 December | 4 December | 22 November 1988 / 12 December 1990 |
So in a typical year, late November is ginkgo time and the maples follow around the start of December. The last three years landed on either side of the normal, which is a good reminder that a single date is only an average.
Midosuji Illumination 2026 and the November calendar
Osaka Prefecture and Osaka City announced the details of Osaka Hikari-Kyoen 2026 (大阪・光の饗宴2026), the city’s winter lights event, on 24 September 2026. The event as a whole runs from 3 November 2026 to 31 January 2027. These are the parts that fall in November:
| What | When | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Midosuji Illumination 2026 | Tue 3 November (public holiday) to Thu 31 December, from around 17:00 to 25:00 (1am) | Along Midosuji from the Hanshin-mae crossing to the Namba-Nishiguchi crossing, about 4 km, divided into five areas |
| Lighting ceremony | Mon 23 November (public holiday), 17:00–19:00. Cancelled in bad weather | Midosuji, from the Yodoyabashi crossing to the Semba-Chuo 3 crossing |
| OSAKA Hikari no Renaissance 2026 | 3 November to 31 December, 17:00–25:00 | The illuminated façade in front of Osaka City Hall, and the Nakanoshima Illumination Street (Miotsukushi Promenade) |
The projection mapping on the Central Public Hall runs from 11 to 25 December, so it is not part of a November trip. Traffic arrangements and other programme details had not been announced when we checked, so see the official Osaka Hikari-Kyoen website for the latest information before you go.
From the lights to a bar
The illumination runs until 25:00 and our bars open at 21:00, so the two fit together easily: see the lights first, then walk east off Midosuji into Higashi-Shinsaibashi. It is the second half of that walk, later in the night, when the extra layer earns its place.
Public holidays in November 2026
- Tue 3 November: Culture Day. If you take Monday 2 November off, Saturday 31 October to Tuesday 3 November becomes a four-day break.
- Mon 23 November: Labour Thanksgiving Day, which makes Saturday 21 to Monday 23 November a three-day weekend, and the date of the lighting ceremony.
The day before that first long weekend is Halloween; our Halloween page covers that night separately.
Where to go after the lights: three Korean bars open until 5am
When the temperature drops after midnight, it is easier to spend the hours indoors, where it is warmer than the street. Our three bars are in Higashi-Shinsaibashi 2-chome, within a five-minute walk of each other: bars with Korean staff, K-pop playing and Korean drinks. All three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and there is no food menu. Each is rated 4.9 on Google Maps, with 2,844 reviews for HEAVEN, 380 for 韓国バーMOON and 678 for SARANG (as of September 2026).
| Bar | Best for | What you will find |
|---|---|---|
| HEAVEN | Singing and getting lively | Free karaoke and darts, and a VIP room. Smoking allowed |
| 韓国バーMOON | Sitting down and talking | Shisha and lounge seats. Smoking allowed |
| SARANG | A quiet drink, even alone | A quiet, fully non-smoking bar with no karaoke and mostly counter seats, so coming alone is easy |
- Open every day from 21:00 to 05:00, with no closing day and no reservation needed. If you have a question before you come, ask the bar by phone or Instagram DM.
- Credit cards and cash are both accepted.
- HEAVEN and 韓国バーMOON allow smoking inside; SARANG is fully non-smoking.
- Private hire and groups are welcome; ask the bar about numbers.
- Guests under 20 cannot enter. If you have been drinking, do not drive.

FAQ
Q. How cold is Osaka at night in November?
By the Japan Meteorological Agency’s 1991–2020 normals, the November daily low in Osaka is 10.2°C (50.4°F): 12.1°C (53.8°F) in early November and 8.4°C (47.1°F) in late November. The low usually comes just before dawn, so 5am is the coldest time to be outside. Normals are averages, so check the agency’s forecast for your dates.
Q. What should I pack for Osaka in November?
Layers and a coat. Daytime highs are 20.0°C (68.0°F) in early November and 15.9°C (60.6°F) in late November, with a gap of about 7–8°C to the low. A light coat works early in the month; by late November, bring something closer to winter wear, and a scarf if you will be out until morning.
Q. When are the autumn leaves in Osaka?
At the Osaka Regional Headquarters, the normal date for ginkgo leaves turning yellow is 22 November and for maple leaves turning red is 1 December. These are observations of one sample tree each, not the peak at any viewing spot, so colour elsewhere can come earlier or later.
Q. When does the Midosuji Illumination 2026 start, and until what time is it lit?
From Tuesday 3 November to Thursday 31 December 2026, from around 17:00 to 25:00 (1am), along about 4 km of Midosuji from the Hanshin-mae crossing to the Namba-Nishiguchi crossing. The lighting ceremony is on Monday 23 November, 17:00–19:00, and is cancelled in bad weather. Check the official Osaka Hikari-Kyoen website for the latest details.
Q. Does it rain much in Osaka in November?
Less than in October. The November rainfall normal is 72.5 mm, about half of October’s 136.0 mm. Rain still falls on some days, so a compact umbrella is worth carrying.
Q. Are there public holidays in Osaka in November 2026?
Two: Culture Day on Tuesday 3 November and Labour Thanksgiving Day on Monday 23 November. Saturday 21 to Monday 23 November is a three-day weekend, and taking Monday 2 November off gives a four-day break from 31 October to 3 November.
Q. Do I need a reservation at your bars?
No. All three are open every day from 21:00 to 05:00 with no closing day. If you have a question before you come, contact the bar by phone or Instagram DM.
Q. Is there an age limit?
Yes. Guests under 20 cannot enter. Note too that the three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and serve nothing to eat.
