Late-Night Arrival at KIX:
Last Trains, Buses, First Night

If your flight into Osaka lands late at night, or leaves early in the morning, it almost certainly uses Kansai International Airport (KIX): the city’s other airport, Osaka International Airport (Itami), operates only from 7:00 to 21:00. For a late-night arrival, the key fact is that trains from KIX into Osaka finish in the 23:00 hour: the last train from Kansai Airport on the Nankai line to Namba leaves at 23:55, and the last JR train towards Osaka Station at 23:09. After that, the only public transport into the city is the late-night bus to Osaka Station (Umeda), which leaves Terminal 1 at 0:15 and reaches Hankyu Sanbangai at 1:13; the night bus to Namba is currently suspended. For an early morning flight from KIX, the first airport bus leaves Shinsaibashi at 5:30, and the first Nankai train leaves Namba at 5:15.

Hello. I am the Korean owner of three Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, Osaka: HEAVEN, 韓国バーMOON and SARANG. Every week, guests walk in after midnight with their suitcases still in the hotel lobby, saying “We only landed two hours ago.” This page gathers the official last-train, first-train and night-bus times (checked on 8 October 2026), explains what to do in each arrival window, and then looks at how to enjoy your first night even if it starts at 1 a.m. I do not name hotels, other bars or airlines, and I do not guess at journey times or waiting times; every time below comes from the operators’ own timetables.

Last and first departures from Kansai Airport into Osaka

Four public-transport options connect KIX with central Osaka: two railways and two airport bus routes. The table shows the last and first departures from the airport on each, as published on the operators’ official sites and checked on 8 October 2026. In Japanese timetables, services after midnight are often written as 24:xx or 0:xx; both appear below exactly as the operators show them.

Timetables change (revisions, special schedules, delays), so check the operators’ official sites on the day you travel. The two bus routes above are first-come, first-served, not reservation-based. The late-night bus to Namba (the Nankai Namba Station night-bus route) and the Namba (OCAT) route are both suspended at the time of writing.

What to do, by the time you land

Your plan depends less on the scheduled landing time than on when you actually walk out of the arrivals hall with your bags. How long immigration, baggage and customs take varies from flight to flight and person to person, so I give no estimates; instead, each window below has a fallback.

1. Out of arrivals by the 22:00 hour: take the train

You have the full choice. For Namba (the closest station to Shinsaibashi and Higashi-Shinsaibashi), take the Nankai Airport Line. The Airport Express can be ridden with an ordinary ticket, while the Rapi:t limited express needs a limited express ticket and a reserved-seat ticket as well; on weekdays the last Rapi:t leaves at 23:00 (22:55 on weekends and holidays), after which only the Airport Express runs. For Tennoji or Osaka Station, take the JR Kansai-Airport Rapid (last to Tennoji 22:50, last towards Osaka 23:09). The direct bus to Shinsaibashi has already finished by this time (last from Terminal 1 at 21:35), so for Shinsaibashi the train to Namba is the way. From Namba, Higashi-Shinsaibashi is within walking distance; the route is on getting to Higashi-Shinsaibashi. If you prefer the subway, Namba to Shinsaibashi on the Midosuji Line is one stop in the Minoh-Kayano direction (the same direction as Umeda), well before the last train.

2. Out of arrivals around 23:00: aim for the train, but note the bus

The three times to remember are Nankai 23:55 (last Airport Express to Namba), JR 23:09 (last towards Osaka Station) and Rapi:t 23:00 on weekdays. If you clear arrivals in good time, the Nankai Airport Express at 23:55 still gets you to Namba. But because arrival formalities take an unpredictable amount of time, write down the late-night bus times before you land: Terminal 2 stop 1 at 0:02, Terminal 1 stop 5 at 0:15, to Hankyu Sanbangai (Umeda). If the station gates are already closed when you get there, you still have a bus to catch.

3. Out of arrivals after about 23:30: the late-night bus to Umeda, or the airport until morning

The late-night bus to Osaka Station (Umeda) is the one scheduled connection left. It leaves Terminal 2 from stop 1 at 0:02 and Terminal 1 from stop 5 at 0:15, and arrives at Hankyu Sanbangai at 1:13 (the operator gives about 60 minutes from Terminal 1 to Hankyu Sanbangai). Four rules apply to this bus, all from the operator’s notice: it is cashless only (no cash on board); it does not stop at Herbis Osaka, unlike daytime buses; it is first-come, first-served; and if it is full, no extra bus is added. So go straight to the stop once you have your bags. If you land at Terminal 2 and want the Terminal 1 departure, the free shuttle bus between the terminals leaves from in front of Aeroplaza and takes 7 to 9 minutes, according to the airport.

At Hankyu Sanbangai you are in Umeda, and by 1:13 the Midosuji Line has finished for the night (at Shinsaibashi the last trains leave at 24:12 towards Shin-Osaka and 24:15 towards Nakamozu), so the rest of the journey to your hotel will be on foot or by taxi. The airport’s official taxi page lists pre-booked taxis, ride-hailing services and flat-rate airport taxis; check it in advance if you may need one.

Or stay at the airport until the first train. According to the airport operator’s page for late-night and early-morning passengers, Terminals 1 and 2 have shops that open before 7:00 and shops that stay open after 22:00, currency exchange counters and ATMs that can be used late at night, and there is hotels on the airport island (see the official site). The operator describes KIX as expanding its early-morning and late-night hours towards becoming a fully 24-hour airport, so the terminals are used to people waiting for the 5:45 Nankai or 5:50 JR train. Two other night-time options exist for completeness: a Nankai Bus service to Izumisano Station and Rinku Town (departures at 0:00 from Terminal 2 and 0:10 from Terminal 1, arriving Izumisano Station at 0:34, with further Terminal 1 departures at 1:05, 2:50 and 3:55), and the Kobe-Kansai Airport Bay Shuttle to Kobe Airport (connecting bus from Terminal 1 at 23:45, boat at 0:00). Neither goes to central Osaka.

Your first night in Osaka, even if it starts at 1 a.m.

Here is the part of the story that a timetable cannot tell you. Many bars in Minami close around midnight, so people who land late assume the first night is lost. Our three bars, HEAVEN, 韓国バーMOON and SARANG, are open every day from 21:00 to 05:00, with no closing day and no reservation needed. If you reach Namba on the 23:55 Nankai train, or your hotel in the small hours, one drink on your first night still fits; we are open until 5 a.m. either way. For other places that stay open late, see late-night bars in Osaka.

Three practical notes before you come:

  • Drop your bags at your hotel first. Check in, leave the suitcase, and come out with just your wallet and phone.
  • If your flight home or your next day starts early, decide your leaving time before you sit down, and tell the staff; they will remind you.
  • All three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and do not serve food. If you are hungry after a long flight, eat first; Korean fried chicken and late-night Korean food in Osaka has ideas.

What you can check about us before you decide:

  • All three are in Higashi-Shinsaibashi 2-chome, within walking distance of Shinsaibashi and Namba stations.
  • Google Maps listings with public reviews: HEAVEN 2,844, 韓国バーMOON 380 and SARANG 678, each rated 4.9 (as of September 2026).
  • You can ask anything before you come by phone or Instagram DM.
  • Credit cards and cash are both accepted. How the bill works in Japanese bars in general, including the small dish some places serve, is explained in otoshi and table charges in Japan.
  • Smoking is allowed inside HEAVEN and 韓国バーMOON. SARANG is fully non-smoking.
  • Private hire and groups are welcome; ask each bar about numbers.
  • The legal drinking age in Japan is 20; guests under 20 cannot enter.

Timetables change (revisions, special schedules, delays), so check the operators’ official sites on the day you travel. Which service you need depends on the time your airline asks you to be at the airport; follow your airline’s instructions rather than any rule of thumb.

The night before an early flight

Our bars are open until 5:00, which means the night before an early departure does not have to be spent staring at the hotel ceiling. Three habits make it work: pack completely before you go out, so the morning is just shower and go; decide your leaving time in advance and let the staff know; and keep the drinking light, because an early check-in queue is no place for a heavy head. If you are leaving on the 5:30 bus from Shinsaibashi, the stop is a short walk from Higashi-Shinsaibashi, which is one reason guests with morning flights like this neighbourhood.

FAQ

Q. Are there still trains from Kansai Airport late at night?

Trains into Osaka finish in the 23:00 hour. The last Nankai Airport Express to Namba leaves Kansai-Airport Station at 23:55 (weekdays and weekends/holidays alike, timetable as of 21 December 2024), and the last JR Kansai-Airport Rapid towards Osaka Station at 23:09 (JR timetable revised 3 October 2026). JR’s 23:24 and 23:43 locals only go as far as Hineno. Check the official timetables on the day you travel.

Q. Is there a night bus from KIX to Namba?

Not at the moment. The Nankai Namba Station night-bus route and the Namba (OCAT) route are both shown as suspended on the operators’ pages (checked 8 October 2026). The only late-night bus into central Osaka goes to Osaka Station (Umeda): Terminal 2 stop 1 at 0:02, Terminal 1 stop 5 at 0:15, arriving Hankyu Sanbangai at 1:13.

Q. How do I ride the late-night bus to Umeda?

Go to Terminal 2 stop 1 (0:02) or Terminal 1 stop 5 (0:15). Payment is cashless only, so have a card or mobile payment ready; the bus does not stop at Herbis Osaka; it is first-come, first-served; and if it is full, no extra bus runs. The free shuttle between the terminals leaves from in front of Aeroplaza and takes 7 to 9 minutes.

Q. Can I stay at the airport until morning?

Yes. The airport operator’s page for late-night and early-morning passengers lists shops that open before 7:00 and after 22:00, currency exchange and ATMs that can be used late at night, and hotels on the airport island. The first trains leave at 5:45 (Nankai, weekdays) and 5:50 (JR).

Q. I have an early flight. What is the first bus from Shinsaibashi?

5:30 from the Shinsaibashi (Hotel Nikko Osaka) stop, UH2, arriving Terminal 2 at 6:21 and Terminal 1 at 6:30. Buy a one-way ticket from the machine beside the 2nd-floor front desk; the bus is first-come, first-served. From Namba, the first Nankai Airport Express to KIX leaves at 5:15 on weekdays, and the Midosuji Line at Shinsaibashi starts at 5:21 towards Namba.

Q. Does Itami (Osaka International Airport) have late-night or early-morning flights?

No. Under Article 2 of its operating rules, Osaka International Airport operates 14 hours a day, from 7:00 to 21:00. Flights arriving late at night or departing early in the morning use Kansai International Airport.

Q. Can I visit a Korean bar on the night I arrive?

Yes. HEAVEN, 韓国バーMOON and SARANG are open every day from 21:00 to 05:00, with no closing day and no reservation needed, so arriving in Osaka at midnight or 1 a.m. still leaves time for a drink. Drop your bags at the hotel first. All three are bars and do not serve food, and guests under 20 cannot enter.

Q. What should I wear for an October night in Osaka?

This page sticks to transport. For what October evenings in Osaka are like and what to pack, see October weather in Osaka. For staying safe on your first night out, see the Osaka nightlife safety guide.
