Osaka Halloween 2026:
Dotonbori & Shinsaibashi Night Guide
In 2026, Halloween (31 October) falls on a Saturday, so the nights of Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October are expected to be busy in Osaka. The crowds usually gather around Dotonbori and Ebisubashi Bridge, the bridge in front of the Glico sign. Any road or walking rules for the night will come from Osaka Prefectural Police and Osaka City, so check their announcements before you go out. And if the street gets too much, you can always step away and sit down somewhere quieter, costume and all.
I am Korean, and I run three Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, a short walk from Dotonbori. Every October, travellers ask me what Halloween in Japan is actually like, so this is the guide I give them: where it happens, how to move through the crowd, and the manners that keep the night fun for everyone.
When is Osaka Halloween 2026, and where does it get busy?
Halloween in Japan is less about trick-or-treating and more about dressing up and going out in the city at night. There is no single official parade to find: people simply come out in costume, walk around, take photos and meet friends. In Osaka, that happens mostly in Minami, the Namba and Shinsaibashi area.
| Date | Day | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| 30 October 2026 | Friday | The start of the Halloween weekend; the streets may already be busy in the evening |
| 31 October 2026 | Saturday | Halloween night itself, on a weekend, so crowds are expected to be at their largest |
| 1 November 2026 | Sunday | The morning after; plan your way back to your hotel before you go out |
The busiest spots
- Dotonbori and Ebisubashi Bridge (the bridge in front of the Glico sign): every year, many people in costume gather here on Halloween night, and the area has been widely reported as crowded.
- Shinsaibashi-suji shopping street: the covered arcade that links Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori tends to be busy too.
- Amerikamura: the youth-culture area west of Shinsaibashi also tends to fill up.
These are general patterns, not forecasts for 2026. If you want a calmer evening, plan a route that does not keep you standing on the bridge. For one idea, see an Osaka night itinerary.
Traffic restrictions and official information
As of 13 October 2026, we could not find any announcement from Osaka Prefectural Police or Osaka City about traffic restrictions or crowd arrangements for Halloween 2026. For any rules on the night, such as closed roads or one-way walking, please check the official announcements from Osaka Prefectural Police and Osaka City, and follow the instructions of officers and staff on the street.
We plan to update this article just before Halloween. Until then, treat it as a general guide, not as official information.
Crowd safety: what to keep in mind
Halloween in Minami is meant to be fun, and a few simple habits help keep it that way. None of this is special to Japan; it is common sense for any packed street at night.
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| On a bridge or a narrow street | Keep moving. Do not stop in the middle, and do not block the way to take photos |
| Walking in the crowd | Go with the flow of people, not against it |
| Going out as a group | Agree on a meeting point away from the crowd before you set out, in case you get separated |
| Your phone | Keep enough battery so you can find your friends and your way back |
| Wallet and valuables | Carry them in front of you, and do not keep them in a shallow pocket (a general tip against pickpockets) |
| Feeling unwell | Do not push on. Move to a place with fewer people and rest |
| It feels dangerous | Decide to leave the area. Walking away early is always a good call |
Emergency numbers in Japan
- 110: police
- 119: ambulance and fire
If someone you do not know invites you somewhere, you do not have to follow. Choose where you go yourself and check it on Google Maps first. More tips are in our Osaka nightlife safety guide.
Costume manners, what to wear, and getting home
Japanese Halloween crowds are generally relaxed and friendly, and a little consideration from visitors goes a long way. These are the manners that matter most on the street.
- Do not change in station or shopping centre toilets. Get ready at your hotel instead.
- Take your rubbish with you. Bins can be hard to find on the street, so carry a small bag for it.
- Ask before you photograph someone. Costumes are made to be seen, but a quick “Can I take a photo?” is still polite.
- Leave big props at home. Large props, and anything that could be mistaken for a real weapon, are best not carried through a crowd.
- Be careful with full-face masks. Covering your whole face makes it hard to see around you in a crowd.
Dress for a cool night
Late October nights in Osaka can feel chilly, especially in a thin costume. Bring a layer you can put on later; see Osaka weather in October for what to wear.
If you miss the last train
On a busy Saturday it is easy to lose track of time. Check your last train before you head out, and if you miss it, see late-night bars in Osaka for how to spend the hours until the first train. If you have been drinking, do not drive.
Korean bars in Shinsaibashi where you can sit down in costume
You do not have to spend the whole night standing in the crowd. Our three bars are in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, within walking distance of Dotonbori, with Korean staff, K-pop and Korean drinks. On Halloween you are welcome to come in costume, and sit down, rest and talk with your friends. For the route, see how to walk from Dotonbori to our Korean bars.
All three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and do not serve food. Each is rated 4.9 on Google Maps: HEAVEN with 2,844 reviews, 韓国バーMOON with 380 and SARANG with 678 (as of September 2026).
