Nakgopsae in Osaka
Shinsaibashi, Namba and where to go after

In Shinsaibashi: “楽韓堂 心斎橋店” in Higashi-Shinsaibashi 2 (closes around 4:00, about a minute from our bars), “コプチャンち 心斎橋店” (0:00), the nakgopsae specialist “サウィ食堂 心斎橋店” (23:00) and “楽韓堂清水町店” (0:00). In Namba: “ケミチプ難波千日前店”, the Japanese branch of a Busan restaurant (23:00), and “韓国料理 ハラペコ食堂 大阪 GEMSなんば店” in GEMS Namba (23:30). Every restaurant here is one whose nakgopsae we could confirm on Google Maps. Afterwards, the Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi are a few minutes’ walk away and stay open until 5am.

Hello. I am Korean and I run three Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi (HEAVEN, 韓国バーMOON and SARANG). To be clear from the start: all three are bars and we do not serve food, nakgopsae included. But every night guests tell us what they just ate, and this page is built from those conversations plus the facts we checked restaurant by restaurant on Google Maps in September 2026. For every other dish, see the Korean food guide for Osaka; for grilled pork, the samgyeopsal page; for the stews you can order on your own, jjigae and sundubu.

What nakgopsae is — a name that lists its own ingredients

낙곱새 (nakgopsae) is three words run together. 낙지 (nakji, octopus), 곱창 (gopchang, beef or pork intestines) and 새우 (saeu, prawns), simmered together in a deep red chilli sauce. It is a dish from Busan, and many restaurants add tteokbokki rice cakes or glass noodles to the pan.

If you already know Korean stews, set your expectations differently here. A jjigae is something you eat with rice, often in a single-person earthenware pot. Nakgopsae arrives in a wide, shallow pan that a table shares. You are not drinking the liquid; you are picking pieces out of the pan while it keeps bubbling in front of you.

In Shinsaibashi, “楽韓堂 心斎橋店” describes it on its own Google Maps listing as a Busan regional dish of octopus, prawns and intestines with tteokbokki and glass noodles — in Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese. In Namba, “ケミチプ難波千日前店” is the Japanese branch of a restaurant that has been running for more than fifty years in Haeundae, Busan, and “サウィ食堂 心斎橋店” is a nakgopsae specialist. Busan’s dish has arrived here more or less intact.

Which one should you order?

Eating alone, and you want rice with it → jjigae or sundubu (this page).
Two or more, and you want something hot and spicy to share → nakgopsae.
You want grilled meat → samgyeopsal (this page).

How to order: chilli, numbers, and the rice at the end

1. Say something about the chilli when you order

The chilli is the dish here, so unlike doenjang jjigae there is no version without it. Most restaurants do let you pick a level, though. In Korean: “덜 맵게 해주세요” (less spicy, please) or “제일 안 매운 걸로” (the mildest one). In Japanese, “辛さ控えめで” works. If someone at the table cannot take heat at all, order a mild level and something non-spicy alongside. More phrases for the evening are in our etiquette guide.

2. Treat it as a dish for two or more

Because it is one pan for the table, some restaurants serve it from two portions upward. On a night when you are eating alone, the stews are the safer choice: they come in a single-person pot.

3. Do not skip the fried rice

When the octopus and intestines are gone, the standard move is 볶음밥 (bokkeumbap): rice fried in the sauce left in the pan, usually with seaweed flakes and sesame oil. Everything the pan has been cooking ends up in that rice, so treat it as part of the dish rather than an extra — and leave room for it.

4. You will sweat

Between the chilli and the heat of the pan, most people are warm and a little flushed by the end. It helps to think in advance about somewhere you can take a jacket off, or somewhere cool to sit afterwards. One thing in its favour: a simmered pan makes far less smoke than a grill, so it does not settle in your clothes and hair the way barbecue does.

Shinsaibashi: restaurants serving nakgopsae (nearest to 韓国バーMOON first)

These are only the places where nakgopsae could be confirmed from the Google Maps name, popular-dish listing, owner description or posts. The order is distance from 韓国バーMOON (2-8-6 Higashi-Shinsaibashi), not a ranking by taste. “—” means the walk was not measured.

“楽韓堂 心斎橋店” is on the same block as our bars, 2-8 Higashi-Shinsaibashi, about one minute on foot (some 30 metres). Nakgopsae is among its popular dishes on Google Maps, and at 4:00 it closes later than any other restaurant on this page. “コプチャンち 心斎橋店” is in Shinsaibashisuji 1, closing around 0:00, with 576 reviews and samgyeopsal confirmed as well. “サウィ食堂 心斎橋店” in Higashi-Shinsaibashi 1 is a nakgopsae specialist and closes at 23:00; “楽韓堂清水町店” also runs to 0:00.

This is a dish you can still eat late. The stew restaurants shut between 22:00 and 0:00 (see the jjigae and sundubu page), while nakgopsae has two places open to 0:00 and one to 4:00. What else is open at that hour is covered in Osaka late-night bars.

Namba: restaurants serving nakgopsae (nearest to 韓国バーMOON first)

In Namba there is one in Sennichimae and one in GEMS Namba. It is about 9 to 12 minutes on foot to Higashi-Shinsaibashi, crossing Dotonbori and heading north.

“ケミチプ難波千日前店” is the Japanese branch of a restaurant that has run for over fifty years in Haeundae, Busan; with 2,333 reviews it has the most of the six here. It closes around 23:00. “韓国料理 ハラペコ食堂 大阪 GEMSなんば店” is on the fifth floor of GEMS Namba, where an owner post in September 2026 confirmed nakgopsae; it runs to 23:30 and also does samgyeopsal and stews.

The walk north from Namba is described in Dotonbori to the Korean bars.

After dinner: somewhere cool to sit down

In Korea a night does not end at the restaurant (1-cha). You move somewhere else for drinks (2-cha) and then to sing (3-cha). With nakgopsae the reason to move is not that the restaurant is closing — “楽韓堂 心斎橋店” stays open until 4:00. It is that after the chilli and the heat, you want to be somewhere cooler and quieter.

Our three bars are in Higashi-Shinsaibashi 2-chome, 1 to 7 minutes on foot from the Shinsaibashi restaurants above — from “楽韓堂 心斎橋店”, about a minute along the same block. All three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and we do not serve food. Eat first, then come over.

FAQ

Q. What is nakgopsae?

A Busan dish whose name is made from its ingredients: 낙지 (octopus), 곱창 (intestines) and 새우 (prawns), simmered together in a red chilli sauce. Many restaurants add tteokbokki rice cakes or glass noodles. It ends with bokkeumbap, rice fried in what is left in the pan.

Q. Where can I eat nakgopsae in Shinsaibashi?

We do not rank by taste, but four restaurants in Shinsaibashi have nakgopsae confirmed: “楽韓堂 心斎橋店”, “コプチャンち 心斎橋店”, “サウィ食堂 心斎橋店” and “楽韓堂清水町店”. On Google they are rated 4.2 (240 reviews), 4.6 (576), 4.5 (300) and 4.4 (516) respectively, as of September 2026.

Q. And in Namba?

“ケミチプ難波千日前店” in Sennichimae, closing around 23:00, and “韓国料理 ハラペコ食堂 大阪 GEMSなんば店” on the fifth floor of GEMS Namba, to 23:30. The first is the Japanese branch of a restaurant that has run for more than fifty years in Haeundae, Busan, and has 2,333 reviews. Higashi-Shinsaibashi is about 9 to 12 minutes on foot.

Q. Can I ask for it to be less spicy?

The chilli is the base of the dish, so there is no version without it, but most restaurants offer levels. Say “덜 맵게 해주세요” in Korean or “辛さ控えめで” in Japanese. If someone cannot take heat at all, order something non-spicy alongside.

Q. Can I eat it on my own?

It is one pan for the table and some restaurants serve it from two portions upward, so on your own the stews are safer — see jjigae and sundubu. For bars where turning up alone is normal, see drinking alone in Osaka.

Q. Can I eat nakgopsae late at night?

Yes. “楽韓堂 心斎橋店” closes around 4:00, and “コプチャンち 心斎橋店” and “楽韓堂清水町店” around 0:00. That makes it far easier to eat late than stews, which shut between 22:00 and 0:00. Hours change, so check Google Maps before you go.

Q. How is it different from jjigae?

A jjigae usually arrives in a single-person earthenware pot and is eaten with rice, so one person can order it. Nakgopsae is a wide pan shared by the table and suits two or more. They also end differently: rice is added to a jjigae to make something like a porridge, while a nakgopsae pan becomes fried rice.

Q. Will my clothes smell?

Much less than after a barbecue. A simmered pan produces little smoke, which is why nakgopsae suits an evening where you are going on somewhere afterwards.

Q. Where do people go for a drink afterwards?

The three Korean bars in Higashi-Shinsaibashi are 1 to 7 minutes on foot from the Shinsaibashi restaurants, and about a minute from “楽韓堂 心斎橋店”. 韓国バーMOON for a shisha somewhere cool, SARANG for a quiet non-smoking counter, HEAVEN for free karaoke. Open 21:00–05:00 daily, no reservation needed.

Q. Can I eat nakgopsae at HEAVEN, MOON or SARANG?

No. All three are bars, not Korean restaurants, and no food is served. Come for a drink after eating nearby. Guests must be 20 or older.
